Last week’s attention of the golfing world centered fairly and squarely on the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black but this week we take a look at betting prospects in events on the PGA, the LPGA and the European Tours.

The Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth is this week’s PGA Tour event, the LPGA Tour is in Virginia for the Pure Silk Championship while the European Tour is in Denmark for the Made In Denmark event.

Last week we covered out bets with the success of Brooke Koepka and while there is no point boasting about selecting a favourite it sure beats picking a losing outsider.

The PGA Championship earns the attention of the golfing world this week when the second men’s major championship of the year is played at Bethpage Black on Long Island just outside of New York City.

Brooks Koepka begins the event as the favourite and the defending champion and it would seem that given the demands of Bethpage one of the game’s leading half dozen players is likely to take the Wanamaker Trophy.

We also look back at last week to see how we performed.

This week’s events for betting assessment are the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas, the British Masters in Southport in England and the Japan and Asian Tour’s Asia Pacific Open in Chiba east of Tokyo.

With just one week to go until the second men’s major of the year, the event in Dallas takes on even greater significance as the defending champion for next week’s event, Brooks Koepka, starts as one of the pre-tournament favourites.

One or two near misses with last week’s fancies but no chocolates unfortunately.

This week we assess the chances at three events, namely the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina, the LPGA Tour’s Mediheal Championship near San Francisco and the Volvo China Open in Shenzhen.

We also take a look back at last week results and how our analysis then fared.

The 2015 PGA Championship Day’s greatest golfing moment to date – photo PGA of America

On a visit to my vault in a search for something else I found this audio piece I did with Jason Day soon after him announcing his decision to turn professional in 2006. It was on the eve of his first PGA Tour event at the John Deere Classic in 2006.

Looking back those nearly 13 years it is interesting to see how he felt, as an 18 year old, about the decision and his future and, perhaps surprisingly, how he thought he might have copped a little flack for turning professional so young.

That decision of course has been well and truly vindicated. Twelve PGA Tour titles including one major and two World Golf Championship events in addition to a World Cup of Golf Individual and Teams title, more than US$45 million in earnings on the PGA Tour and a total of eight top five finishes in major championships highlight an outstanding talent and an amazingly successful career already despite some, at times, debilitating injuries.

This week we assess the chances at three events, the Zurich Classic Teams event on the PGA Tour, the L.A. Open on the LPGA Tour and the Trophee Hassan event on the European Tour.

Last week saw a good win by Brooke Henderson when defending her Lotte Championship title in Hawaii. Her odds were not long ($13) but she got the job done and we went close with both Matt Kuchar and Patrick Cantlay at Harbour Town.

After the stunning success of Tiger Woods last week and a small profit for those who listened to our analysis of the event last week the golfing world returns to some form of normality this week when the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage Classic at Harbor Town in South Carolina and the LPGA Tour’s Lotte Championship in Hawaii take centre stage.

There is nothing like the Masters to get the golfing juices flowing whether you are a keen golfer or just a sports fan in general.

Like the Melbourne Cup in Australia it is one of those events in which everyone is keen to try their hand in picking a winner and like the Melbourne Cup there are many, many chances although trying to assess those more realistic chances is what I attempt in this rundown from a betting angle.

The two great story-lines of the event in my opinion, aside from the betting outcome, come from Rory McIlroy’s attempt to complete a career Grand Slam and whether Tiger Woods can get his quest to chase down Jack Nicklaus as the winner of the most majors in the game back on track.

Woods has won this event on four previous occasions and already has 14 major titles to his name and his great record at Augusta National even when not winning and impressive recent performances suggest a win is not the remote possibility if might have been considered twelve months ago.

This week sees the first major event of the golfing year played at Rancho Mirage in California, the ANA Inspiration formerly known as the Kraft Nabisco. I take a look at the leading prospects in my eyes and also assess the chances at the Valero Texas Open which of course is the lead-up event to the first men’s major of the year at next week’s Masters.

This week we put under the betting microscope events on the PGA Tour (The WGC Dell Technologies Match Play) and the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship), the Hero Indian Open on the European and Asian Tours and the Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour.

Jin Young Ko assisted our cause last week when she won the LPGA tour event and Jazz Janeawattananond went close in Kuala Lumpur but we struggled at the Valspar Championship.

Remember the Match Play event in Austin in Texas begins on Thursday morning Australian time so for those wanting to get early odds then they might need to be on by Wednesday evening.
