Scott Hend’s share of 4th place at this week’s PGA Tour Champions event in Arkansas added another US$121,000 to his rookie-season earnings and moved him to 16th in the Charles Schwab standings, second only to Steve Alker among the many Australasians now plying their trade on the PGA Tour Champions.

Hend, who won in Morocco earlier this year before earning playing rights to compete regularly on the PGA Tour Champions, boosted his season earnings to US$1,125,000, and with the security of tenure he now enjoys, more is expected from the 53-year-old.

Always considered one of the longer hitters in the game, Hend stands behind only Padraig Harrington in driving distance stats on the PGA Tour Champions, the pair the only golfers averaging beyond 300 yards and providing a distinct advantage. A recent improvement in his putting adds yet another string to his bow.
Hend has also recorded success on the Staysure Legends Tour in Europe where he has won three titles, but now he is guaranteed tenure in the US and has clearly made a decision to focus on ‘over 50’ golf, there appears to be a very lucrative next few years for the US-based Queenslander who, until now, has been one of the game’s most prolific travellers.
