27-year-old Victorian Matias Sanchez has today won his first PGA Tour of Australasia title with a two-shot victory over South Australia’s 43-year-old veteran Adam Bland at the Webex Players Series South Australia.
The 2017 Australian Amateur Champion, defeating none other than Min Woo Lee in the final that year, Sanchez led throughout the week following his opening round of 63 and held off a strong late challenge from Bland over the closing stages to claim an important breakthrough in his professional career.
Sanchez led into today’s final round by three, but he was unable to build any momentum, reeling off 12 straight pars before bogeys at the 13th and 15th threatened his long-held lead but an important birdie at the 17th gave him the cushion he needed to secure victory.
NSW’s golfer Blake Windred, who regained his playing privileges at the Q School in April after a run of disappointing performances, finished 3rd, just one behind Bland and three from the winner, sharing that position with West Australian Haydn Barron.
